Paint Charlotte Purple!

COLLEGE COLORS DAY
This Friday, August 29th, marks the  fourth annual National College Colors Day celebration taking place across the United States. College Colors Day, which coincides with both "back to school" and the kick-off of intercollegiate athletics, including football, celebrates and promotes the spirit that makes college traditions great by encouraging fans, alumni and students to wear apparel of their favorite college throughout the day.

College Colors Day strives to promote higher education in the United States through increased public awareness and celebrates the achievements of colleges and universities in the United States, acknowledging their critical and fundamental importance to the United States.

PAINT IT PURPLE FRIDAYS
Friday also marks the kickoff of East Carolina's annual Paint It Purple Fridays. The ECU Pirates encourage all fans to show their support and pride in the Pirates by wearing purple on Fridays (and gameday) throughout the season to help the Pirates paint it purple! You can share your spirit online in our Paint It Purple gallery on ecupirates.com.

OFFICIAL FAN SHIRT
You can support the Pirates this season in the official fan shirt for the Pirates. The shirt is purple with the phrase “Passion. Pride. Pirates. Catch It!” on the back to coincide with the theme for the 2008-09 year. It can be purchased exclusively at the Dowdy Student Stores and the University Book Exchange for $7.95.

“We are excited about 2008-09 for all of our athletic teams,” said Lee Workman, Associate Athletic Director for Special Projects. “We feel having an official fan shirt is a great way to mark the year. This is a great game day shirt!” Visit the Dowdy Student Stores and the University Book Exchange to purchase this shirt and for any of your other Pirate gear needs.

PAINTING CHARLOTTE PURPLE
Through the great efforts of Fairway Outdoor Advertising and ECU graduate Dan O'Shea '76, ECU is painting the western part of the state purple in preparation for the season opener against Virginia Tech in Charlotte. Two billboards are currently in place on I-85 south, six miles north of 119 and also just south of the Yadkin River bridge. A third billboard is also planned for the I-85 loop south of Greensboro.

"My wife and I both graduated from ECU and we are both lifetime members of the Alumni Association. We've always had a devotion to East Carolina, and because we gained so much from our education, we think lifetime membership is a great way to give back to the University. I would recommend lifetime membership to anyone who went to East Carolina. There are many wonderful benefits, and it's very special."

"I am a member of the alumni association because it provides an opportunity for me to connect to the university, renew relationships through alumni events, and help attract potential students to ECU. As an active member of the alumni association, I have the chance to serve as an advocate for the university through volunteerism. Being a member along with my son as a fellow Pirate demonstrates commitment and builds a legacy within our family."

"I am a member because ECU is my second home. Staying connected not only allows me to give back to the university but also inspire the next generation of pirates."

Tim Willis '12

"I am a member of the Alumni Association because I want everyone to know what East Carolina means to me and how much pride and love I have for ECU. Being a member means the world to me, and is the one way that I can give back and stay connected to the place that gave me the best years of my life."

Jeremy Woodard '01

"I am a member of the alumni association because I appreciate how well ECU prepared me for my business career. I enjoy contributing to the alumni association's efforts to provide scholarships for some of our best and brightest students. The Alumni Association does a great job of providing ways for alumni to reconnect with their alma mater and I hope when they do they enjoy it as much as I do. I believe in what ECU stands for and my membership helps me feel a part of the great things ECU is accomplishing!"
