Alumni Scholarship Program

Since 2005, the Alumni Scholarship program has awarded 224 scholarships totaling more than $300,000. Alumni Scholarships are annually awarded to students who are currently enrolled at East Carolina University as full-time* undergraduates (including freshmen) who have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Students who currently receive grants and/or scholarships in excess of $6,000 per year, not including student loans, are not eligible for the Alumni Scholarship Program.

*Full-time, as defined by East Carolina University, are students who register for a minimum of 12 credits and continue to carry at least 12 credits through the end of each semester.

Scholarship applications are evaluated based on: demonstrated leadership, service/volunteerism, and recommendation (one signed letter that speaks to the applicant’s involvement in university/community related extracurricular activities or employment).

To apply:

  • Go to the ECU On-line Scholarship Management System
  • In the search bar, type, East Carolina Alumni Association and click on the link.
  • To start an application, click the sign in link at the bottom of the page.
  • Completed applications include a letter of recommendation and creative expression about what it means to you to be an ECU Pirate.

Alumni Scholarship recipients are selected in the spring of each year. Recipients MUST attend the Scholarship Luncheon on April 25, 2015 to receive their scholarship.

Alumni Scholarships are credited directly to the student’s fee bill from the Cashier’s Office. Half of the scholarship will be awarded in fall and half will be awarded in spring. If a student is on a co-op for a semester, a credit will be applied in one lump sum to the student’s fee bill for the semester they return—unless otherwise notified or discussed, this policy stands. If a student graduates early, only under special circumstances may a credit be applied in one lump sum to the student’s fee bill. If the student does not attend ECU for the following academic year, the scholarship must be forfeited.

Applications must be complete and recommendation letters
must be uploaded by Friday, January 30, 2015 at 5:00 p.m.

"My wife and I both graduated from ECU and we are both lifetime members of the Alumni Association. We've always had a devotion to East Carolina, and because we gained so much from our education, we think lifetime membership is a great way to give back to the University. I would recommend lifetime membership to anyone who went to East Carolina. There are many wonderful benefits, and it's very special."

"I am a member of the alumni association because it provides an opportunity for me to connect to the university, renew relationships through alumni events, and help attract potential students to ECU. As an active member of the alumni association, I have the chance to serve as an advocate for the university through volunteerism. Being a member along with my son as a fellow Pirate demonstrates commitment and builds a legacy within our family."

Linda Thomas '81

"I am a member because ECU is my second home. Staying connected not only allows me to give back to the university but also inspire the next generation of pirates."

Tim Willis '12

"I am a member of the Alumni Association because I want everyone to know what East Carolina means to me and how much pride and love I have for ECU. Being a member means the world to me, and is the one way that I can give back and stay connected to the place that gave me the best years of my life."

Jeremy Woodard '01

"I am a member of the alumni association because I appreciate how well ECU prepared me for my business career. I enjoy contributing to the alumni association's efforts to provide scholarships for some of our best and brightest students. The Alumni Association does a great job of providing ways for alumni to reconnect with their alma mater and I hope when they do they enjoy it as much as I do. I believe in what ECU stands for and my membership helps me feel a part of the great things ECU is accomplishing!"
