Centennial Homecoming: A weekend to remember!
|
Homecoming truly was a great time to be a Pirate, and a wonderful time to share the spirit and passion for our great University with Greenville. Thousands of alumni and friends of East Carolina made their way home to celebrate this amazing place, share fond memories of time spent here, and make new memories with fellow Pirates. Every aspect of Homecoming honored the heritage and tradition of East Carolina, from her beginning as a teacher’s training school to her bright future as the University for North Carolina!
Alumni Awards Six amazing award recipients were recognized during this year’s Alumni Awards Ceremony. Dr. Shirley Carraway ’75, ’85, ’92, ’00, Jim Chesnutt ’63, Ron Clark ’94, and Rev. Hubert Walters ’65 received the Outstanding Alumni Award for outstanding and uncommon achievement in their professions. Dan Kinlaw ’65 received the Distinguished Service Award and Dr. Leo Jenkins was honored posthumously with the Honorary Alumni Award. More than 225 alumni and friends attended the Awards reception and dinner at the Hilton Greenville to congratulate our award winners and hear inspirational acceptance speeches.
Homecoming Festivities Beginning with the Homecoming Luncheon on Friday and ending with the ECTC/ECC Dinner Dance and the Black Alumni Reunion on Saturday, Homecoming was jam packed with fun alumni events. Alumni Open House hosted more than 300 alumni, friends, and families who also enjoyed a front-row seat for the Homecoming Parade. A record number of Pirate fans joined the Alumni Association for Alumni Tailgate, with more than 1,100 attendees. Pirate fans enjoyed an exciting football game as the Pirates took on the Blazers of UAB for a 41-6 win!
Reunions Reunions are a special time of year for alumni, and the Black Alumni Reunion and ECTC/ECC Dinner Dance are two special reunions that bring affinity groups together. Both held at the Hilton Greenville, each reunion had over 150 participants to attend. The Collegians played Big Band favorites for the ECTC/ECC Reunion while Carroll Dashiell and his jazz combo and D.J. Tony "T-Rob" Robinson entertained black alumni during the social hour and after-hours party. |
