"Thank You" Pirate Nation
The Alumni Association would like to extend a sincere “thank you” to those who participated in the 100,000-pound food drive. During this season of giving, many alumni and friends of East Carolina donated canned food items to be distributed to food banks in eastern North Carolina. We also received e-mails and phone calls from alumni living in other parts of the country that made monetary and food donations at their local food bank during the drive. Alumni contributions totaled more than 16,000 pounds of canned food items toward ECU’s Volunteer and Service Learning Center’s yearlong goal of 100,000 pounds. Thank you!

Building International Relationships
East Carolina University serves more than just North Carolinians. The caliber of our programs and welcoming atmosphere of Greenville and the University attracts eager students from all over the world. As our mission is to inform, involve, and serve members of the ECU family, the East Carolina Alumni Association is working with the University’s Office of International Affairs to enhance our connection with international alumni. Our collaborative goals are to generate resources for international scholarships, utilize international alumni to recruit students, and recognize international alumni accomplishments to build awareness and value of an ECU degree. The Office of International Affairs will develop a quarterly e-newsletter containing profiles of international members of the ECU community, details on international recruitment, and news from the Office of International Affairs. The next issue will feature a celebration of International Education Week. The Alumni Association’s web site, PirateAlumni.com, will contain an international alumni page, and the Alumni Association will contact international alumni to ask for assistance with recruiting students from abroad. We are excited about this joint endeavor and look forward to growing the University’s relationships with international alumni. If you live abroad and would like to get involved in our international project, please contact Monika Wojciechowski in the ECU Office of International Affairs at wojciechowskim@ecu.edu, or the East Carolina Alumni Association at alumni@piratealumni.com.  Together we can spread the good news about ECU!

Save the Date - Screenwriter's Seminar
We all know why movies move us – they touch on relatable emotions. But what is perhaps more illusive is how. Cinematic storytellers do it with a creative blend of craft and artistry, and it all begins with the screenplay. Using several popular contemporary feature films as examples, Mark Evan Schwartz '75 will examine how those emotions are achieved from the perspective of the screenwriter in this lively seminar. Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 1, 2008 to join alumni and friends of East Carolina at Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, NC for our Screenwriter’s Seminar. Click here for additional information.
