Victory, East Carolina!
The Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl was an exciting finale to the gridiron Pirates' successful season. With 1:25 on the clock Boise State picked up a fumble to tie the game at 38. But the Pirates declared "No Quarter" and with seconds left to play Ben Hartman kicked a 34-yard field goal to secure the Pirates' victory! Fans across the Pirate Nation celebrated this bowl championship, the first since the Pirates' Galleryfurniture.com bowl championship in 2000. Click here to read the full story.
With a bowl game held nearly 5,000
miles from East Carolina, many Pirate Football fans were unable to make
the trip. However, pride runs deep for ECU alumni and friends, so to
give support to the gridiron Pirates fans purchased bowl game tickets
for military troops and their families stationed in Hawaii. In exchange
for their donations, fans received a commemorative bowl ticket. |

| Alumna's Book Promotes Care for Elderly
|
Walk & Roll, by Lynn Lancaster Gorges ’75 was a labor of love. After her mother suffered a stroke in 1991, Gorges, like many of her generation, found herself in a new role as her mother’s caregiver. Frustrated by not being able to find things that might make her mother’s daily tasks easier, Gorges decided to put her own creative talents and sewing ability to work. With the help of her husband, William, and three children she wrote and published Walk & Roll – Easy Sewing Projects to Assist Those with Special Mobility Needs. The book provides simple patterns for stylish and functional accessories to mobility aides like walkers and wheelchairs, promoting greater independence for those with special needs. Walk & Roll is available through Gorges’ web site, www.creativecaregiver.com or by calling 252-636-3039. |

Harry Stubbs ’74, ’77
Harry Stubbs ’74, ’77, the DC Metro area contact for the Alumni Association, recently served on a panel at the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) conference in Baltimore, Maryland. Stubbs and alumni chapter presidents from Ohio and Tulane universities answered questions about how to attract, engage, and sustain alumni in both on campus and chapter events, based on their volunteer experiences working with their Alumni Associations.“Participating in this CASE panel is just part of my concept of Servire, not only the motto of OUR East Carolina University, but how I choose to conduct my life,” Stubbs said. “As the chaplain for Yale University has stated: ‘Service is the rent we pay for living in God’s beautiful world.’”
