Alumni Online Community and Facbook Connect
Many alumni enjoy using the Alumni Association's and Facebook's® online networking communities to stay in touch, share exciting news, and plan get togethers. Thanks to Facebook Connect, users can now sign-on to both online communities in one easy step, and publish alumni activity to their Facebook accounts.

When visiting the Alumni Association's online community, alumni with Facebook accounts need simply to validate their identity using their Alumni Association log in and password. Your alumni account will then be associated with your Facebook account, and future logins to either site provide authentication to both PirateAlumni.com and Facebook.

Just as Facebook asks if you would like to publish information to your wall, dialog boxes in the Alumni Association's online community will ask if you would like to broadcast activity to your Facebook news feed. For example, if you register to attend a reunion or Alumni Tailgate and would like others to know that you'll be attending, simply allow Facebook Connect to publish the information.

Click here for complete details on Facebook Connect.

Christia V. Rey

On December 15, 2008, when the Commonwealth of Virginia’s 13 electors met to cast their votes for the next President and Vice President of the United States, history was made—not only by the Democratic Party and President-Elect Barack Obama, but also by an ECU alumnus, Chris Rey. A second-year law student at The College of William & Mary, Rey represented the First Congressional District in Virginia as a presidential elector. Rey is the first African American to have represented this district.

Rey was elected to the post during the Democratic First Congressional District convention. During the 2008 presidential race, Rey volunteered in the Democratic Party’s coordinated office in Newport News, VA. “It is an honor to serve as a presidential elector,” said Rey. “This is an historic election for the country and for the First Congressional District of Virginia.”

As a law student at William & Mary, Rey is a member of the William & Mary Election Law Society and serves as the National Director of Corporate Relations of the National Black Law Students Association. Rey previously served as a United States Army Captain and saw combat tours to Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Rey completed his military career as Commander of the Third Special Forces Signal Detachment, Fort Bragg. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his service.

As an undergraduate at ECU, Rey volunteered for John Edward’s senatorial race in 1998. On campus at East Carolina, Rey was active in Gospel Choir, Student Government Association, and Phi Beta Sigma. Rey is a member of the East Carolina Alumni Association.

Carl Davis '73

Carl Davis is an avid Pirates fan. Never one to miss an athletic event, he has also recruited his wife Martha to cheer for the purple and gold. The Davis' can be spotted at nearly every football and basketball game in Greenville or across the Pirate Nation. Davis graduated from East Carolina in 1973 with a BA in Sociology. While a student, he was active in the Student Government Association and at the campus radio station.

Since his time at ECU, Davis has remained involved with the University as previous member of the Board of Visitors where he served as chairman. As a charter member of the “Comm Crew: Friends and Alumni of the School of Communication” Davis works with his fellow communications graduates to advocate for the School of Communication, fund scholarships and activities for ECU students, and foster an atmosphere of professional fellowship among alumni, faculty and friends of the School of Communication. In 2006 he chaired the committee to plan a campus radio reunion.

Davis is a Life Member of the Alumni Association and serves as Treasurer on the Board of Directors. He and Martha frequently attend Alumni Association events, and most recently hosted the Wake County Holiday Party at their home in Raleigh, NC.

Professionally, Davis is the Assistant General Manager of UNC-TV. He has been with UNC-TV for 10 years, and is responsible for developing and implementing goals and strategies to strengthen UNC-TV’s broadcast and non-broadcast engineering, technology, and administrative operations. Every spring the East Carolina Alumni Association coordinates volunteers for Festival, UNC-TV’s annual fundraising drive. Tune in Saturday, March 7th as ECU alumni and friends volunteer for Festival.

If you are interested in volunteering with the East Carolina Alumni Association please e-mail Kendra Alexander or call 800-ECU-GRAD.
