The East Carolina Alumni Association would like to congratulate the Class of 2009 on their graduation and officially welcome them as alumni! These students join more than 120,000 other former students as alumni of our great University. Members of the Class of 2009 have done something special to commemorate their graduation--buried a time capsule in the lawn of the Alumni Center on Fifth Street. The capsule was presented during the Senior Candlelight Ceremony on April 28, and will be opened during the 2059 Golden Alumni Reunion. What an exciting way to revisit history!

On Saturday, April 4 the East Carolina Alumni Association awarded thirty students with $1,000 scholarships for the 2009-2010 school year, the most scholarships awarded since the program's inception. Of the thirty recipients, twenty-four were Alumni Scholars, five were ECTC/ECC Legacy Scholars, and one was a Richard Holt '96 New York Metro Alumni Chapter Scholar.
"It is amazing to learn about the accomplishments of these students in their community, on campus, and in the classroom. They are among the best and brightest students at East Carolina today and will be leaders in education, industry, health care, and our communities tomorrow. We invest in these students individually because we believe in ECU students collectively," said Paul J. Clifford, president and CEO of the East Carolina Alumni Association.
The 2nd Annual Pirate Alumni Road Race and Fun Run, held on April 18, was a terrific start to the Alumni Association's fundraising efforts for next year's scholarships. We're pleased to have made more than $7,000 that will be included with revenue from our fall scholarship fundraisers: the Pirate's Bounty Scholarship Auction (September 24) and ECU Alumni Scholarship Classic (September 25).
