Pirate's Bounty Scholarship Auction and ECU Alumni Scholarship Classic - September 24-25
Your bid or swing may land you a bounty! Join the East Carolina Alumni Association for the Pirate's Bounty Scholarship Auction presented by Tobacco Road Cellars on Thursday, September 24 and the ECU Alumni Scholarship Classic presented by the Hilton Greenville on Friday, September 25. These annual events raise funds for ECU student scholarships awarded by the Alumni Association. We've awarded 92 scholarships in the last five years! Your participation in these scholarship events truly does make a difference.

There will be plenty of treasures available at the Pirate's Bounty Scholarship Auction. Bid on vacations, one-of-a-kind items, sports memorabilia, jewelry, art, Pirates merchandise, items for the home and office, and so much more! Special auction items this year include Greenville's Painted Pirate Statues. Join us at the Hilton Greenville on September 24 at 7:00 p.m. for a fun evening with hors d'oeuvres, Pirate beverages, and live entertainment by Scott Mueller. Register today!

The following day, join us at Ironwood Golf & Country Club to tee off at the ECU Alumni Scholarship Classic. Our four person super-ball

Get Your Alumni Tailgate Tickets Today!


If you are an Alumni Association member and you haven't already registered for Alumni Tailgate, what are you waiting for? Alumni Tailgate tickets will be open for public sale beginning Monday, August 3. Be sure to call the Alumni Center at 800-ECU-GRAD or fax the registration form to ensure you can join our family-friendly tailgate.

The Alumni Association is proud to offer six home Alumni Tailgates, and in partnership with the Pirate Club two away Alumni Tailgates this football season. Presented by ARAMARK, Liberty Mutual, and WITN-7, Alumni Tailgate offers all-you-can-eat buffets catered by local restaurants, activities for children, live entertainment, raffle prizes, Pirate beverages, and a chance to see Pee Dee the Pirate and the ECU Cheerleaders.

Tickets are $10.00 per person for Alumni Association members and $20.00 per person for non-members. Children 12 and under are free to all Alumni Tailgates. Register today!

ECU's football season begins next month and enthusiastic Pirates fans around the country will enjoy gathering with fellow fans to cheer on the Gridiron Pirates. Calling all former ECU Ambassadors! Did you serve the University and community in the Alumni Association's prestigious student group the ECU Ambassadors? Play a round of golf for student scholarships at the ECU Alumni Scholarship Classic on Friday. Homecoming and Reunions 2009
Homecoming 2009: "100 Years of Treasured Traditions" is fast approaching! Make plans now to come home to East Carolina and Greenville the weekend of October 16-17. The University, the Alumni Association, and various departments, schools, and colleges will host a number of fun, engaging activities for alumni, friends, and their families.

Take part in a reflective conversation about Hurricane Floyd and the resulting flood led by former Chancellor Dick Eakin with special guest Meteorologist Marvin Daugherty of WITN-7. Enjoy a Homecoming Luncheon with the University's Leader in Residence Tommy Spaulding '92. Help honor this year's award recipients at the Alumni Awards Dinner and Ceremony. Spend time with fellow grads at the Alumni Breakfast before watching the annual Homecoming Parade. Enjoy live entertainment and plenty of food and beverages at Alumni Tailgate, then cheer on the Pirates as they play the Rice Owls.

Several reunions will take place during Homecoming weekend including the Black Alumni reunion, the Class of 1984's 25th Reunion, and the ECTC & ECC Golden Alumni Reunion honoring the Class of 1959.

College of Business Hosts Steve Farber
ECU's College of Business' Cunanan Leadership Speaker Series presents Steve Farber, bestselling author and leadership guru for "Greater Than Yourself: Three Steps of Attaining the New Gold Standard of Living" on Thursday, September 24 at 3:00 p.m. in Wright Auditorium on ECU's campus. This event is complimentary and open to the public.

The Cunanan Leadership Speaker Series is made possible by a gift from ECU alumni Steve '87, '91 and Ellen '88 Cunanan. Matching funds were also provided by the Johnson & Johnson Foundation.

Free campus parking will be available at the Carol Belk Park and Ride Lot, located at the intersection of Greenville Blvd. and Charles Blvd. The permit requirement for the lot will be waived and special shuttles will transport participants directly to the event at Wright Auditorium. Shuttles will pick up and drop off on the north side of the Belk Building, the side closest to the baseball stadium.

Feed the Hungry at the Million Meals Event
On Saturday, August 22 hundreds of volunteers will help package meals for the hungry during the 2009 University Million Meals Event. Anyone 10 years and older is encouraged to lend a hand in the Greenville community to package more than 200,000 meals. This Volunteer and Service Learning Center project will take place at the Boys and Girls Club (Jack Minges Unit) in Winterville throughout the day. Many shifts are available. Please register today to help someone in need.

Angela Allen '81



Angela Allen '81 is a vice president in IBM's Global Business Services organization as an Americas Delivery Excellence leader supporting the United States, Canada, and Latin America. In this role, she is responsible for delivery improvements across the Americas portfolio of contracts. This includes managing client satisfaction and project management programs, monitoring and resolving troubled situations, and providing tools, processes, and capability to help IBM deliver excellent service to clients.

Allen stays connected with East Carolina as a founding member of the Women's Roundtable Board of Directors and on the College of Technology and Computer Science's Advisory Board. She has also been a featured speaker at ECU's TECS Lecture Series where she talked about her five points of wisdom: elieve in yourself, believe in growth through challenge, believe in ongoing education and learning, believe in what you are doing, and believe in change.



Charlie Martin '68 



Charles "Charlie" Martin '68 has been volunteering for East Carolina University for nearly a decade. In 2001, he and wife Joan '76 joined the ECU Parent's Council and have been active volunteers and University advocates ever since. Martin was an integral part of the Parent's Council, having assisted with Open Houses and Family Weekends, raised money for the Parents Fund, participated with various campus initiatives like ECU's alcohol, drug, and violence policy, encouraged expansion of the Office of Parent Services, and served as Council President from 2002-2005. Martin was awarded a Distinguished Service Award for his unparalleled commitment to ECU and dedicated service to the Parent's Council and advancing ECU in 2005. Effective July 1, the Alumni Association is thrilled to include Martin as a member of it's Board of Directors and looks forward to his ideas, insight, and contributions to help advance the mission of the Alumni Association to inform, invovle, and serve members of the ECU family throughout their lifelong relationship with the University.

Martin is the marketing director for Mid Atlantic Auto Recyclers, and he and Joan are members of the Pirate Club's Van Sandt Society for more than 25 years of support. Their son Charles III received his undergraduate in business in 2003 and daughter Katherine received a master of social work in 2007.
