Remembering Hurricane Floyd and the Flood of the Century

It's been 10 years since Hurricane Floyd and its resulting flood waters devastated eastern North Carolina and East Carolina University. Join former Chancellor Dr. Richard Eakin '08(h) and an esteemed panel of guests as we reflect on that challenging period in the Univeristy's history at 10 Years After the Flood: A Reflective Conversation on Friday, October 16 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. in Hendrix Theater on East Carolina's campus.

WITN Chief Meteorologist Marvin Daugherty '72, '75, member of the 1999 ECU football team Kevin Monroe '99, '05, Vice Chancellor of Student Life during the incident and 2009 Outstanding Alumni Award Recipient Dr. Garrie Moore '85, and current Dean of Students and Director of Counseling during Hurricane Floyd Dr. Lynn Roeder will join Dr. Eakin in remembering Hurricane Floyd and the flood of the century, and will talk about ECU's growth since that trying time.

This event is complimentary and open to the public. A brief video with WITN news footage of the Hurricane and flood will be shown and Tara Worrell '01, who sang at a commemorative ceremony in 1999, will once again delight attendees with her beautiful voice.

Please let us know you're coming by calling the Alumni Center at 800-ECU-GRAD or by completing and faxing the registration form to 252-328-4369.

The fall issue of Servire magazine featured an article about Hurricane Floyd and the flood. Read it here.
