All proceeds from the Pirate Alumni Road Race and Fun Run benefit East Carolina Alumni Association scholarships. The Alumni Association annually awards deserving ECU undergraduate students with $1,000 scholarships to be used in the following academic year. To date, the Alumni Association has awarded 58 scholarships.

Awards are presented to the first three male finishers overall, to the first three female finishers overall, and the top three male and female finishers in each of the following age groups:

• 18 and under
• 19-29
• 30-39
• 40-49
• 50-59
• 60 and over

No awards are presented to Fun Run participants.

History of the Road Race

2009
Race was held April 12 at 9:00 a.m. and started at Chico's Mexican Restaurant.  The event was presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings, Chico's, Coastal Beverage Company, East Carolina Foot and Ankle Specialists, East Carolina Road Racing, Mountain Valley Spring Water, Occasions Party & Tent Rentals, Panera Bread, Road ID, Runner's World, Signs Now, and WITN.

Race was held April 12 at 9:00 a.m. and started at Chico's Mexican Restaurant.  The event was presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings, ECU Physical Therapy, and Panera Bread. The 2008 event added $6,000 to the Alumni Scholarship endowment.
