Paul J. Clifford is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Alumni Relations and the President of the East Carolina Alumni Association. He is responsible for directing a program that offers programs, services, and communications to 130,000 Pirate Alumni worldwide.

Prior to taking the post at ECU, he was the director of outreach at the University of Connecticut Alumni Association, responsible for chapters, affinity groups, school & college societies, community service, legislative advocacy and volunteer management. Clifford was director of alumni relations at SUNY- New Paltz, prior to joining the staff at UConn. He began his career as assistant director of alumni relations for communications and student programs at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA.

Clifford has received peer recognition for both individual achievement and outstanding programming. He served as the adviser to the James Madison University Student Ambassadors, the 1998-1999 SAA/SF District III Most Outstanding Organization. His alumni program at New Paltz received the 1999-2000 State University of New York Council for University Affairs and Developments Excellence Award in Alumni Programming, and he was the recipient of the 2001 CASE District I Rising Star Award. In 2005, his programs were recognized by CASE District III with Special Merit Awards in Electronic Communications and Overall Alumni Programs. On two occasions, CASE District III again deemed his programs award worthy with the Grand Award of Excellence for Overall Alumni Program (2007, 2008) and numerous Special Merit Awards for programming. In addition, his program earned their first international recognition with a Bronze Medal in the category of collaborative programs from CASE as part of their Circle of Excellence awards.

Clifford, an active member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, has been a presenter, faculty member and faculty chairperson at numerous conferences sponsored by the professional organization. In addition, Clifford has published a number of articles in the “Development & Alumni Report” and was the co-editor of “Alumni Clubs and Chapters”, published by CASE Books in September of 2002. In addition, he served a three year term as a commissioner on CASE’s Commission for Alumni Relations from 2005-2008. Most recently he authored a chapter in CASE’s newly released “Alumni Relations: A Newcomers Guide to Success.”

In 2006, the East Carolina Alumni Association was admitted into the Council of Alumni Association Executives (CAAE). CAAE membership is made up of chief executive officers of alumni organizations supporting major private, public and land grant institutions of higher education. CAAE membership includes professionals with extensive and senior level administrative experience in not for profit organizational membership, higher education administration, program development and implementation, consulting, finance management, communication and marketing.

In January of 2008, Clifford was named to the inaugural class of 20 fellows in the Chancellor’s Leadership Institute (ECU). The Institute is the most prestigious leadership training program at ECU designed for faculty and staff that are poised for future leadership roles.

Clifford resides in Greenville, NC with his wife, Jenne, and their three children. In his spare time, Paul coaches his children’s various sports teams, is a published photographer, and recreational runner. He co-hosts a local radio show titled "A Pirate's Life For Me!" He is a 1996 graduate of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania where he was named the 2005 Young Alumnus of the Year.

Emily is a member of the Alumni Programs team, working with student programs and affinity reunions. Emily is is advisor to the ECU Ambassadors and the all female a capella group The Magnolia Belles. Prior to joining the Alumni Association staff, Emily worked at the Alamance Chamber of Commerce in Burlington, NC. Emily is a 2008 graduate of East Carolina with at B.S. in hospitality management and concentration in special event planning.
 
Originally from Burlington, NC, Emily lives in Greenville with her husband Josh ’08. She enjoys reading, watching Pirates sports, and spending time with family and friends.

Kendra leads the programs team, managing the regional events and programs that connect alumni, including our annual scholarship fundraisers, various series events, tailgates, service month initiatives, and working with volunteers. Prior to working at the Alumni Association, Kendra was a sales representative for Pirate Radio 1250 & 930 AM.
 
Kendra is a 2005 graduate of Meredith College, where she earned a B.S. degree in business marketing and a minor in Spanish. She is currently enrolled in graduate courses at the University. 
 
ECU is a family affair for Kendra as her parents and husband are all ECU alumni. Originally from Washington, NC, Kendra lives in Greenville with her husband Mark ’04 and Puggle dog Buccaneer. She enjoys traveling, watching movies, and boating. 
   
 Monique Best

Monique is part of the ECU Foundation Financial Services team serving as an Accounting Technician for the Alumni Center. Monique has more than eleven years experience working at ECU in the financial area. Monique served in the United States Army for ten years, including service in the military police.

Monique lives in Greenville and enjoys spending time with her family, playing softball, and traveling.

Stephanie is a member of the Alumni Programs team where she is responsible for planning several regional programs including Industry Inside-Out, Chancellor’s Tours, Published Pirates, Alumni Networking events, and the Lunch and Learn series. Stephanie coordinates Homecoming activities, including the Homecoming Luncheon, the Alumni Awards Ceremony, and Classes without Quizzes. In addition Stephanie works with the Alumni Scholarship and Awards programs, processes event registrations, and tracks strategic planning statistics. Prior to joining the Alumni Association, Stephanie worked in the 4-H State Offices in Raleigh.
 
Stephanie is a 2005 graduate of North Carolina State University where she received bachelor degrees from both the College of Design and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Originally from Sanford, NC, Stephanie lives in Greenville with her husband, Brooks, and their kitten Pepper. She enjoys watching movies, going to football games, and spending time with family and friends.

Candi is part of the ECU Foundation Financial Services team serving as the Accountant for the Alumni Center. Candi graduated from ECU in 1997 with a B.S. in business administration (emphasis in accounting). Prior to joining ECU she worked in the accounting department at Overton’s, Inc. for eleven years.

Originally from Aulander, NC, Candi lives in Greenville with her husband Vernon, son Asher Matthew, and their two dogs, Hooch & Kacey. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, watching movies, and trips to the beach.

Betsy is at the heart of the Taylor-Slaughter Alumni Center. As Alumni Center Coordinator, she creates a welcoming and organized environment for alumni, friends, and Alumni Center visitors. Betsy utilizes her degree and experience in business administration to run an efficient and effective work place for office staff and student workers, assisting with various needs of the president and CEO, and the Programs and Membership & Marketing teams.

Betsy and her husband Sidney ’86 live in Greenville. They have two daughters, one of whom is currently a student at ECU.

When not at the Taylor-Slaughter Alumni Center, Betsy enjoys spending time on the family sailboat, playing tennis, and attending Pirates sporting events.

Doug leads the communications and membership team, managing web communications including the online community and producing layout and design for print pieces. Prior to working at the Alumni Association, Doug was a development associate for three years at ECU’s Joyner Library.

Doug is a member of the board of directors for the Council of Alumni Membership and Marketing Professionals (CAMMP) and is a member of the iModules Client Advisory Council. In 2009 he received the Jerry F. Tardy New Professional Award given by the Council of Alumni Association Executives (CAAE). 

Doug is a 2000 graduate of ECU with a B.S. in business administration (emphasis in marketing). He also holds a Certificate in Technical and Professional Communication from the University’s English Department.

Originally from Raleigh, Doug, his wife Stephanie ‘02, and their two children, Hannah Grace and Ryan Alexander, live in Greenville. In his spare time, Doug enjoys photography and officiating basketball.
   

 Jennifer Watson

Jennifer is a part of the communications and membership team, creating content for most Alumni Association print and electronic publications, managing relations with local media outlets, and co-hosting the A Pirate’s Life for Me! radio show. She has more than nine years experience in alumni relations, institutional advancement, and professional writing. Prior to joining the Alumni Association, Jennifer was a documentation specialist for the Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Department at BB&T. She also served Barton College as assistant director of Alumni Programs and the Annual Fund and was an admissions counselor.

Jennifer is a 2000 graduate of Barton College, where she earned a B.S. degree in communications with a dual concentration in broadcast journalism and media relations.

Originally from Kinston, NC, Jennifer lives in Greenville with her husband Chris and two boys. She enjoys going to the beach, reading, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends.

Chris is a part of the communications and membership team, working to enhance and expand the membership program. Prior to joining the East Carolina Alumni Association, he was the Assistant Director for Membership and Marketing at the Florida State University Alumni Association. After beginning his career in Alumni Relations he has returned to his alma mater to make use of his years of experience working with non-profit organizations.

Chris is a 2001 graduate of ECU with a B.S. in economics and a minor in business administration. 

Originally from Tallahassee, FL, Chris and his wife Tracee ’00 live in Greenville. In his spare time he enjoys traveling, reading, chess, the arts, watching movies and spending time with family and friends.
