Coach of the Year
| To college football fans, pride and support for their team is everything—donning team colors; following favorite players as they reach milestones on the field; dedicating countless Saturdays to watching their alma mater do battle. Every season, fans commit time and energy into each game hoping for the win, the same way coaches invest in their players and communities by encouraging sportsmanship, integrity, responsibility and excellence. Today, Liberty Mutual Insurance launches its annual Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award, honoring the coaches who give back to their teams, schools and communities, on and off field.
Fan votes help determine the finalists, and ultimately, the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year winners. Now through December 4, Pirate fans can vote for Ruffin McNeill '80 at www.coachoftheyear.com.

Frank '70 and David Ferree '06
A Realtor ® in Myrtle Beach, SC, it was on a trip to Asia that Frank Ferree '70 found the belt he'd been searching for his whole life. After years of wearing ill-fitted belts with homemade extra holes to fit, Frank discovered the "micro-adjust" belt. When his search in America for a similar belt left him empty handed, Frank decided to take matters into his own hands and create Anson Belt & Buckle with Micradjust Technology™. And what better way to start a family company than by bringing in his son David, a 2006 ECU communications graduate, who was working in home remodeling in Myrtle Beach. Frank and David quickly embraced the entrepreneurial spirit and began a four-year journey into unfamiliar territories of research and product development, industrial design, engineers, patent attorneys, Web designers, and product branding specialists. The Ferrees partnered with Raleigh, NC industrial design firm Laut Design to perfect their products. The Lord Anson Collection of men's belts is currently available through online sales, but the duo hope to offer their products in retail stores in the future. ECU Alumni Scholarship Classic Golf Committee
The ECU Alumni Scholarship Classic golf tournament raises funds for ECU student scholarships. With the help of dedicated volunteers, this tournament is a success each year. Led by Committee Chair Linda Tripp '80, '81, 13 individuals helped promote the tournament, put together golf teams, identify tournament sponsors, secure auction items for the Pirate's Bounty Scholarship Auction, and work the tournament. The Alumni Association would like to thank these volunteers for their arduous work and commitment to student scholarships.
Committee members are: John Carrere '08, Adrian Cullin '04, Garry Dudley '92, Erin Grimsley '97, Angela Hill '01, Amanda Hodges '03, '06, Carol Keech '78, Zack Kelly '06, Amber Lavinder '04, Larry Melton '01, '03, Brenda Myrick '92, Heather Stepp '97, and Kevin Youngs '98, '04.
Player spots are still open for the ECU Alumni Scholarship Classic at Ironwood Golf & Country Club on Friday, October 15. Click here for a registration form or call the Alumni Center at 800-ECU-GRAD to register your team.
