Calling all runners!
The 4th Annual Pirate Alumni Road Race and Fun Run, presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield, is scheduled for Saturday, April 16. Support East Carolina Alumni Association scholarships by taking part in this 5K road race and 1 mile fun run. Registration is $25.00 per person and includes a race day T-shirt and goody bag. Alumni Spotlight
John Brian Heath '93 is Assistant Principal of the Year for the Alamance/Burlington School System in North Carolina. Before becoming assistant principal at Walter M. Williams High School, Heath was in the classroom as a music educator in grades K-12 and has also held other administrative roles. He enjoys "supporting students in their academic, athletic, and co-curricular endeavors; challenging student to invest themselves in and give back to their campus and community; providing opportunities for students to explore post-secondary opportunities."

Heath stays involved with ECU by bringing his high school students to tour the campus and through an ongoing relationship with the members of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a national men's musical fraternity.

Volunteer Spotlight
Dr. Charles '62 and Beth '61, '66, '86 Ward have dedicated most of their lives to education and service, including working at East Carolina University. After years working in the public school system, Charles was the educational program director for the NC Department of Correction for 20 years. Beth was a principal in Pitt County for 24 years before joining ECU's College of Education faculty. Both are involved in the Greenville community; Beth as a Pitt County Commissioner and volunteer for myriad non-profit boards and Charles as a member of numerous volunteer organizations.

The couple's involvement with ECU is extensive, including awards and honors. Recently, Beth and Charles have dedicated time to assisting the Alumni Association plan and coordinate the Golden Alumni Reunion that will take place May 5-6 for members of the Class of 1961.

The Wards are life members of the Alumni Association and are Pirate Club members. Their son Stuart '86 was a member of the Gridiron Pirates and Beth's mother Edna Earle Baker was a 1949 ECTC graduate.

East Carolina's relay teams put up record performances in the Raleigh Relays.

ECU cruises to 20-5 win over UNC-W
The Diamond Bucs had a stellar performance at UNC Wilmington's Brooks Field with a season-high 20 hits. The win gives the Pirates a 19-5 record.

Around Campus
The Institute of Outdoor Drama holds auditions at ECU, its new home
ECU is now home to The Institute of Outdoor Drama. On March 12, 181 drama students from 94 universities and colleges made Mendenhall Student Center come alive with singing, dancing, and acting.

Live...From Iraq...It's Monday Night!
ECU's Global Classroom recently hosted a "Midnight Special" where students from the Greenville campus conversed live with students at Kufa University in Iraq. The school is ECU's newest partner in the Global Partners in Education program that incorporates technology and distance learning.

The Mystical Arts of Tibet Tour
A group of Tibetan Monks recently visited ECU and provided the campus with a traditional musical presentation, sacred artwork in the form of a sand mandala painting, and a lecture on "The Ancient Art of Healing."

Main Campus Growth: Parking decks, pedestrian access
ECU's new master plan includes parking decks, fewer cars on the main campus core, and key expansions along Reade and Tenth Streets.
