Spotlights
Alumni Spotlight
Johanna Leinenweber '07 is fundraising coordinator for Project Walk Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Center in Carlsbad, California. She is responsible for raising awareness and funding for the rapidly growing non-profit organization. Having read about Rachelle Friedman Chapman '08 in an issue of EC Alumni, Leinenweber was glad when Chapman became a client at Project Walk. "It was bitter sweet since it meant that she was victim to such a devastating injury; yet Project Walk is the best place to aid her in recovery," said Leinenweber. Although Leinenweber did not directly assist in Chapman’s training sessions, it was comforting for Chapman to know that there was a fellow Pirate to provide emotional support during the intense recovery process.

Leinenweber enjoys life on the West Coast and spends time exploring southern California. She enjoys the miles of beaches, countless wineries, and plentiful outdoor activities. Leinenweber has three younger brothers, including fellow Pirate Dan '11. She is engaged to Ben Finch, whom she will marry in their home state of Maryland in April 2013.

Volunteer Spotlight
For Chris Faw '01, a lifelong resident of Wake County, serving the Alumni Association as a Pirate Contact is a great way for him to stay connected with ECU. Although supporting ECU athletics is important to many Wake County Pirates, Faw and other Pirate Contacts see the value in ensuring there is alumni support for the entire University. Faw enjoys working with other volunteers and bringing alumni together. "The other volunteers that I work with are fantastic Pirates and we truly enjoy putting ourselves out there to help others. Every ECU grad I meet has a unique story, but we're all bound together by the Purple and Gold," said Faw. His favorite Alumni Association activity is volunteering for St. Baldrick's during Service Month. "Over the past two years we've raised more than $5,000 to help cure children's cancer but I know we can continue to grow our event each Spring."

Faw works in insurance and financial planning with Nationwide Insurance. He and his wife live in Knightdale and have a 2-year-old daughter. He enjoys spending time with family and playing ice hockey.
