 | Virginia Carraway is a senior from Fayetteville, NC. Her major is nutrition in the College of Human Ecology. Virginia initiated the revitalization of the Student Dietetic Association growing membership from 10 members in the fall of 2004 to over fifty-five members, 63% of the students majoring in Nutrition. Additionally she established a mentorship program encouraging academic relationships between upper and under classmen. She is a member of several honor societies and organizations including Omicron Delta Kappa, a leadership honor society, and she is the only student member on the Healthy Lifestyle Team, a committee made-up of faculty from health related departments campus wide. Virginia’s father is an East Carolina alumnus from the class of 1978. |

| Brenna Evans is a sophomore from Ayden, NC. She is a nursing major and is an East Carolina Scholar. She has been a volunteer with the Food Bank of Greenville and tutors Hispanic students through the Pitt County Schools Pre-K Program. Brenna is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She also is an active member of her home church in Winterville. Brenna’s father and mother both graduated from ECU in 1979 and each received additional degrees in 1986 and 1983 respectively.

| Jessica Farmer is a junior from LaGrange, NC. She is a nursing major and an East Carolina Scholar. Jessica is also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and educates fellow students on health issues as a member of Healthy Pirates. Jessica is an active volunteer in the community and on campus and was involved with raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk-a-Thon and the American Cancer Society. Jessica’s mother is an East Carolina alumna nursing graduate from the class of 1984.

 | Geoffrey Handsfield is a sophomore from Morehead City, NC. He is majoring in physics with a minor in mathematics. He has been a member of the varsity men’s swim team for the past two years and served as swim team captain. He has volunteered in the community and on campus and was a mentor for an area high school senior this year. Geoffrey is also an East Carolina Scholar. He received the men’s swim team rookie award, the ACS Freshmen Chemistry Achievement Award, is part of the Student Athlete Advisory Council, and serves on the executive council of Jones Hall Government.

 | Matthew Hermann is from Greenville and is a senior majoring in political science with an international relations and comparative politics minor. Matthew is president of the East Carolina Model United Nations Club and has previously served as club treasurer and secretary. Matthew served as Secretary-General for the 7th and 8th Annual ECU Model U.N. High School Conference in 2004 and 2005. He is a member of the ECU Ambassadors and served on the executive board during his junior year. He is also a volunteer with the ECU Volunteer Center. Matthew’s mother and stepfather are ECU alumni from the class of 2000.

| Aadil Lodhi is a junior from Fayetteville, NC. His major is physics with a minor in chemistry. He is President of the Alternative Spring Break Program, President of East Carolina Friends, a mentoring organization, a Ledonia Wright Cultural Center Scholar and Ambassador. Aadil created and organized several campus organizations including an ECU Habitat for Humanity Chapter, the East Carolina Honors Organization, and the Annual World Religions Conference. He also helps to coordinate volunteer activities for Alpha Epsilon Delta, the pre-health honors society. In addition to these and other volunteer activities, he has been part of the physician shadowing program sponsored by the Brody School of Medicine which selects a few students each semester. Aadil’s brother, aunt, and two cousins are East Carolina alumni.

| Melissa Maxwell is a sophomore from Raeford, NC. She is a recreational therapy major with a focus on occupational therapy as a graduate degree. She is an East Carolina Scholar and was a member of the 2005 scholarship selection committee. She is a member of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. Melissa is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and member of the ECU Women’s Club Soccer Team in 2005. She has been a volunteer with Growing Up FIT!, Third Street School, Rocking Horse Ranch, and has been a Special Olympics coach. Melissa’s parents are both ECU alumni.

 | Anna Mitchell is a junior from Wake Forest, NC. She is majoring in exercise physiology. She is a member of the Honors Program and has volunteered as a mentor at Northwest Elementary school. She also was a member of the Student Rural Health Coalition where she had the opportunity to share information on healthy lifestyles with citizens of rural communities. Anna is actively involved with the Baptist Student Union and is the Community Building leader. She has been accepted into the Early Assurance Admission Program for physical therapy. Anna’s mother is a 1982 graduate of ECU.

| Steven Thames is a freshman from Morehead City, NC. He is majoring in criminal justice and pursuing a forensic science minor. Steven is a member of ECU Ambassadors, Emerging Leaders Program, Jarvis Leadership Program, Club Swimming, and has recently joined the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and Collide.

| Christopher Vo is a sophomore from Fayetteville, NC. He is double majoring in biology and chemistry. He is an East Carolina Scholar and member of the Honors Organization, Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. He has volunteered as a mentor with the Third Street Elementary School, Growing Up FIT! and ARISE. Christopher was granted an undergraduate research assistantship during his freshman year and is currently working on an NSF project. Combing science and art, Christopher is also a photographer and won the NCSU Entomological Society’s insect photography contest and works as a photographer for ECU’s yearbook, the Buccaneer, and the Science Olympiad.
