  Arun Ajmera
Alumni Association Scholarship Recipient in memory of Yvonne Pearce '82

Arun Ajmera is a sophomore biology and chemistry double major from Greenville, North Carolina. Last year Arun recieved an ECTC Scholarship from the Alumni Association. Arun is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, ECU’s club tennis, and is the president of ECU’s Tai Chi Club. He has received the Brody School of Medicine Early Assurance Award, the ECU Honors College Academic Scholarship, and has been recognized on the Chancellor’s List. Arun conducts research at the Brody School of Medicine, shadows various physicians in the Pitt county area, and plays oboe with the Tar River Community Band. Arun’s father, Shiv, is a 1986 graduate of ECU.
     

  Michael Joseph Avery
ECTC Scholarship Recipient

Michael is a sophomore English major and chemistry minor from Charlotte, North Carolina. He is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, an ECU Excels Award recipient, was nominated to the National Young Leaders Conference, and has been recognized on both the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists. He is also a member of Golden Key International Honour Society and the Student Pirate Club. Michael volunteers as a H.O.O.P.S. Basketball Camp Counselor, for Sammy Ross Helmet Awareness, Loaves and Fishes food drives, and took part in a research internship at the Carolinas Medical Center. He is very athletic and enjoys participating in a number of intramural sports at ECU, including flag football, volleyball, handball, basketball, and softball. Michael’s father, Larry, is an ECU graduate.
     
  Stacey Michelle Bala
New York Metro Alumni Chapter Scholarship Recipient

Stacey is a senior nutrition science major from LaGrangeville, New York. Stacey has been recognized on the Chancellor’s List and the Honor Roll for academic achievement. She is a member of the Student Dietetic Association, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the NC Dietetic Association, and is an ECU Campus Kitchen volunteer. Stacey is also very active with the Equestrian Club and serves as its social chair, creating social activities and fundraisers for the group. She volunteers with Greenville’s Marley Fund and the Humane Society. She enjoys horseback riding and running with her dog. In the fall, Stacey will enroll in ECU’s graduate school in the Master of Science in nutrition and dietetic internship program.
     

  Tabitha Brook Bednarczyk
ECTC Scholarship Recipient

Tabitha is a senior health education and promotion major with a concentration in pre-health professions from Wilmington, North Carolina. She is a member of ECU’s Honors Program and the International Scholar Laureate Program. Tabitha has been recognized on the Chancellor’s List, Dean’s List, and Honor Roll. She is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Golden Key International Honour Society, College Life campus ministry, and the Residence Hall Association as a resident advisor. Tabitha has also spearheaded the incorporation of a Pre-Physician Assistant club at ECU. She volunteers at the Pirate Tutoring Center, at the East Carolina Injury Prevention Program, and Boys & Girls Club. Tabitha’s hobbies include playing guitar, playing intramural sports, watching Grey’s Anatomy, and leading bible study. Her grandfather Jack Pindell is a 1960 and 1963 East Carolina graduate.
     
  Lindsay Kennedy Callahan
ECTC Scholarship Recipient

Lindsay is a junior communication of science disorders major, and child development and family relations minor from Greensboro, North Carolina. Lindsay is a member of Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) and the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association. She has been selected as a research assistant in her major and will work with a graduate professor on a study involving augmentative and alternative communication. Lindsay has been recognized on the Chancellor’s List since enrolling at ECU. She enjoys playing intramurals and is captain of the indoor soccer team and flag football team. Lindsay has volunteered in the community for the Pitt County Council on Aging, Salvation Army, and Autism Awareness. Lindsay’s father, Kevin, is a 1979 graduate of ECU.
     
  Cara Elizabeth Carr
Alumni Association Scholarship Recipient

Cara is a junior neuroscience major with a minor in Hispanic studies and pre-med from Clinton, North Carolina. She is a two-time Alumni Scholarship recipient. Cara is studying abroad for the spring semester at Universidad Católica de Córdoba in Argentina. She is a Brody School of Medicine Early Assurance Scholar, a member of ECU’s Honors College, Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honors Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. Cara is active with ECU Honors College Ambassadors, participates in the Brody School of Medicine Primary Care Physician Shadowing Program, and is secretary of Omicron Delta Kappa. She has been recognized on the Chancellor’s List for since enrolling at ECU. Cara volunteers for Operation Sunshine, where she is a mentor for at-risk female youth, the Grimesland Clinic, and Vidant Medical Center (formerly Pitt County Memorial Hospital). In her spare time, she enjoys tennis, snow skiing, and intramural sports.
     
  Matthew Thomas Edwards
Alumni Association Scholarship Recipient

Matt is a junior double major in biology and chemistry from Greenville, North Carolina. He is an ECU Honors College Ambassador, and member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Phi Sigma Phi, and Golden Key International Honour Society. Matt is part of the Brody School of Medicine Early Assurance Program, plays on ECU’s club tennis team, and is a member of the ECU Thai Chi Club. He has been recognized on the Chancellor’s list since enrolling at ECU. Matt volunteers for Relay For Life, The Kids on the Block, Puppet Shows that Make a Difference, and the ECU Honors College Department of Communications, where he serves as the undergraduate director of marketing and communications. He is an Eagle Scout with two palms and enjoys creative writing, wilderness hiking, camping, and indoor skydiving. Matt's grandmother Betty Howes is a 1956 East Carolina graduate.
     
  Mary Alexandra Greyard
ECTC Scholarship Recipient

Mary is a senior exercise physiology major and chemistry minor from Dunn, North Carolina. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Eta Sigma, Golden Key International Honour Society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the Jarvis Leadership Program, and the National Society of Leadership and Success. Mary has received a State Employees Credit Union Scholarship, the Walter ’51, ’55 and Marie ’53 Williams Scholarship, and the North Carolina Troopers Association Scholarship, among others. She is active in the Kinesiology Club, Exercise and Sport Science Majors’ Club, the Pre-Physical Therapy Club, and Baptist Campus Ministries. She enjoys volunteering for Pitt County Parks and Recreation, ECU Open House, the American Red Cross, March of Dimes, and Relay For Life. Mary’s hobbies include running, reading, swimming, and lifting weights. Her mother, Teresa, is a 1978 ECU graduate.
     

  Morgan Paige Grissom
Alumni Association Scholarship Recipient

Morgan is a junior biology and chemistry major, and business administration minor from Salisbury, North Carolina. She is a member of ECU’s Honors College and was awarded a scholarship to attend the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders. She is one of five students that serve as research assistant at the East Carolina Heart Institute. Morgan is a resident advisor, and is involved in College Life and Campus Crusade for Christ. She has been recognized on the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists. Morgan has tutored at the Boys and Girls Club, and volunteers with Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity and the American Red Cross. She is also a certified Zumba instructor, and enjoys painting and playing alto saxophone. Morgan’s mother, Sherra, is a 1988 graduate of ECU.
     
  Chelsea Brooke Guild
Alumni Association Scholarship Recipient

Chelsea is a junior communication major with a minor in hospitality management from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She is a member of ECU’s Project S.T.E.P.P. (Supporting Transition and Education through Planning and Partnerships), which has enabled Chelsea to beat the odds against learning disabled students by attending college and being recognized on the Chancellor’s List, Dean’s List, and Honor Roll. She is part of ARAMARK’s Student Manager Training Program and will be a marketing intern for ECU’s division in the summer. Chelsea is vice president of the Pirate-to-Pirate Mentoring Club and president of a new student organization called Project Eye to Eye, which is a mentoring program that matches learning-disabled college students with learning-disabled middle school students. Chelsea is also very active with promoting heart health in children. She teaches jump rope to children in schools, community centers, YMCA’s, Boys & Girls Clubs, and recreation programs in the United States, Canada, U.S. Virgin Islands, South Africa, Australia, Japan, and China. She is a member of the USA Jump Rope Program and the Bouncing Bulldogs Jump Rope Team. In 2008, Chelsea performed jump rope at the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. She also volunteers for Children’s Miracle Network, Animal Protection Society, Toys for Tots, and the Masonic Home for Children. Chelsea loves to travel, try different foods, and sew clothing and household items.
     
  Sarah Morgan Hunter
Alumni Association Scholarship Recipient

Sarah Morgan is a junior business major with a concentration in management from Henderson, North Carolina. She is a member of the National Society for Collegiate Scholars and has been recognized on both the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists. Sarah Morgan is an ECU Ambassador and serves on the Appeals Board. She is active in the Student Accounting Society and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, and served as vice president of public relations for the Society for Advancement of Management. She has spent many hours volunteering for the Ronald McDonald House, Friends of Greenville Greenways, and the Pitt County United Way. Sarah Morgan enjoys camping, spending time with family, and attending ECU athletic events.
     
  Angela Maria Korleski
Alumni Association Scholarship Recipient

Angela is a senior biology major from Wilmington, North Carolina. She is a member of ECU’s Honors College and received the Michael Bunting Scholarship from the University’s Department of Biology. Angela has been recognized on either the Chancellor’s List or Dean’s List since enrolling at ECU. She is an Honors Ambassador, and a member of the Pre-Physical Therapy Club and Omicron Delta Kappa National Honors Society. Angela is a Student Employee Leader with the Honors College and attended the 2011 LEAD Conference. Angela regularly volunteers with Operation Sunshine and at two physical therapy clinics in Greenville. She also conducts research at the University’s Physical Therapy Muscle Lab. Angela enjoys intramural flag football and spent a summer abroad in Italy to study art.
     
  Skylar Brooke Mills
Retired Faculty Association Undergraduate Scholarship Recipient

Skylar is a sophomore elementary education major with a concentration in mathematics from Greenville, North Carolina. She is a member of the NC Teaching Fellows Program and has been recognized on both the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists. Skylar is a member of the Teaching Fellows Student Leadership Team and is co-chair for the Teaching Fellows’ Relay For Life and Habitat for Humanity committees. She is active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a member of the Student Pirate Club. Skylar enjoys volunteering for Operation Sunshine and at the Pitt County Fair, and is active at Greenville First Pentecostal Holiness Church as a youth leader and ministry volunteer.
     
  Amanda Lauren Morgan
Megan Grace Lavinder Memorial Scholarship

Amanda is a junior chemistry major and biology minor from Marshville, North Carolina. She is a member of Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, Golden Key International Honour Society, Sigma Alpha Phi—the National Society of Leadership and Success, and received an Outstanding General Chemistry Award. Amanda has been recognized on the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists as well as the International Dean’s List Society. She is active in the Forever Pirates program, Student Pirate Club, as an undergraduate teaching assistant in the Chemistry Department, as a tutor for chemistry and math, and as a resident advisor in Belk Hall. Amanda volunteers for an internal medicine clinic and Relay For Life, and is active in her church. She enjoys traveling and has visited much of the United States, as well as London and Paris.
     
  Jatin Rajnibhai Patel
Alumni Association Scholarship Recipient

Jatin is a senior biology and chemistry major with minors in economics and business administration from Spartanburg, South Carolina. He is a two-time Alumni Association Scholarship recipient. Jatin has received a Pirate Tutoring Center Scholarship and a Summer Biomedical Research Achievement Award. He is president of ECU's AMSA Chapter, the American Medical Student Association, chair of the ECU Conduct Board, and a member of the Pirate Tutoring Center Advisory Board. Jatin has been recognized on the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists. He volunteers as a chemistry tutor for the Pirate Tutoring Center and is the Southeast lead for BAPS Youth Group, a Hindu organization for college students that helps them maintain their culture. He enjoys basketball, going to the driving range, attending ECU football games, and spending time with friends.
     
  Melissa Marie Pepper
Alumni Association Scholarship Recipient

Melissa is a junior health fitness specialist major from Gaithersburg, Maryland. She is recipient of the Health and Human Performance Emilie Tilley ’60 Scholarship, a Special Talent Access Grant, and has been recognized on both the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists. Melissa tutors students in biology and algebra at the Pirate Tutoring Center, and is a member of the ECU Kinesiology Majors Club. She is past president of Alpha Phi Sorority and currently serves as vice president of ECU’s National Panhellenic Conference chapter. In spring 2011, Melissa was inducted into the Order of Omega, a national Greek leadership honor society. She enjoys volunteering for the Pitt County Humane Society, the Boys & Girls Club, American Red Cross, Jimmy V. Foundation, and March of Dimes. Melissa’s hobbies including playing guitar and piano, intramural flag football and basketball, visiting New York City, and running with her dog, Charlie.
     
  Timothy James Schwan
ECTC Scholarship Recipient

Tim is a sophomore finance major from Hampstead, North Carolina. He is a Walter ’51, ’55 and Marie ’53 Williams Leadership Scholarship recipient, a member of the Jarvis Leadership Program, and Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity, where he is the vice president of alumni relations. He is currently the scholarship chair of ECU’s Interfraternity Council and in 2011 participated in the University’s Mock Trial team. Tim also served as an ECU Ambassador, where he spent many hours volunteering for the University and community. To help stop bullying, Tim worked with the Police Athletic League at the Greenville Recreational Center. His hobbies include playing soccer, basketball, and tennis, and he also enjoys politics. Tim’s mother, Joy, is a 1987 ECU graduate.
     
  Juliann Marie Stalls
ECTC Scholarship Recipient

Juliann is a sophomore psychology major, and a child development and family relations minor from Williamston, North Carolina. She is president of ECU’s chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, is a member of Psi Chi International Honor Society of Psychology, and an Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Award Recipient. She has been recognized on the Chancellor’s List for academic achievement. Juliann volunteers at the Pirate Tutoring Center as the lead psychology tutor and was team captain for it’s 2011 Relay For Life team. She enjoys playing tennis, drawing, and attending concerts. Her father, Randy, is a 1978 ECU graduate.
     
  Anna Meredith Taylor
Retired Faculty Association Graduate Scholarship Recipient

Anna is a graduate student at East Carolina pursuing a master’s in speech-language pathology from Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from ECU in May 2010 with a BS in speech and hearing sciences. During undergraduate, Anna was recognized on the Chancellor’s List, and served the ECU and Greenville communities through the Volunteer and Service-Learning Center. She received their Excellence in Service Award in 2009. Anna is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the ECU chapter of the National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association, and played ECU club volleyball. She enjoys reading, painting, and playing sports.
     
  Zachary Karroll Teachey
Alumni Association Scholarship Recipient

Zach is a junior business administration major from Raleigh, North Carolina. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Zach is a member of ECU’s Honors College, has been recognized on the Chancellor’s List every semester since enrolling at ECU, and received a Special Talent Access Grant. He is very active with ECU’s Club Inline Hockey team as goalie and interns with SMT for the summer X-Games. Zach also volunteered for the Greenville Public Access television station, helping with advertising, social media, web presence, and client contact. He enjoys all sports and also plays intramural football, racquetball, and dodge ball. Zach's father, Norwood, is a 1983 ECU graduate.
     
  Jordan Ellisa Thompson
Alumni Association Scholarship Recipient

Ellisa is a junior hospitality management major and business administration minor from Frisco, North Carolina. She is recipient of the Marriott Scholarship, Lassiter Scholarship, and European Hospitality Management Study Abroad and Thomas Rivers Study Abroad Scholarships. She is a member of Golden Key International Honor Society, Jarvis Leadership Program, Pirate Planners, and National Society of Minorities in Hospitality. Ellisa has been recognized on the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists and was selected for ECU’s Pirate Profile in 2010 and 2011. She is ECU’s student representative and liaison for Meeting Professionals International. Ellisa participates on the Williams Relay For Life Team, volunteers for Give to the Troops, and is a member of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Planning Committee. In the fall semester Ellisa hopes to start a kite boarding club at ECU. She enjoys photography, kayaking, paddle boarding, surfing, scuba diving and traveling.
     
  Jacqueline Tarek Traish

Jackie is a sophomore double major in music performance (flute) and science education (biology) from Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She is recipient of a School of Music scholarship, Honors College scholarship, and Pirate Tutoring scholarship. Jackie has been recognized on the Chancellor’s List for academic achievement. She is a member of Honors Ambassadors, Rising Leadership Circle, Omicron Delta Kappa, is 2nd chair for the ECU Wind Ensemble, and plays with ECU’s Symphonic Orchestra, Woodwind Quintet, and Flute Choir. Jackie has been a Pirate Tutor and volunteers for ECU Open Houses, the Pitt County Animal Shelter, and Habitat for Humanity. Her hobbies include watching movies, Zumba, reading, and attending musicals. Jackie’s mother, Cheryle Ann, is a 2000 and 2004 ECU graduate.
     
  Jennifer Marie Warren
Mary Jo Outland Baugh '55 Scholarship Recipient

Jennifer is a junior exercise physiology major from Goldsboro, North Carolina. Two years ago Jennifer received an ECTC Scholarship from the Alumni Association and last year she received an Alumni Scholarship. She is an ECU Ambassador and currently serves as vice president of administration. Jennifer is also a member of ECU’s Honors College and is an Honors Ambassador, as well as the ECU Pre-Physical Therapy Club. She has been recognized on both the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists. As an ECU Ambassador, Jennifer has contributed nearly 1,000 volunteer hours to the University, community, and Alumni Association. She credits her Leader-In-Training program at Camp Don Lee for her leadership skills and ability to work with anyone and everyone, no matter their age, gender, race, or creed. Her mother, Rebecca Hill, is a 1983 ECU graduate and her father, David, is a 1981 ECU graduate. In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys sailing, playing volleyball, horseback riding, and photography.
     
  Robert William Writtenberry
Tidewater Virginia Alumni Chapter Scholarship Recipient

Bobby is a junior computer science major, and information and computer technology minor from Suffolk, Virginia. He has been recognized on both the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists and received a Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation Ronald W. Roskens Scholastic Achievement Award. Bobby is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the National Society of Leadership and Success, is a member of the Student Pirate Club and Victory Campus Ministries, and is a founding father of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity, in which he has held numerous leadership roles. He has volunteered for Relay For Life, N.C. Big Sweep, campus move-in, Adopt-A-Highway, and the ECU Youth Arts Festival. Bobby is a competitive skim boarder, and enjoys running, cycling, skateboarding, reading, and attending athletic events. He is very proud of his Role Model of the Year in his fraternity and Eagle Scout status.
