Capturing ECU Moments Through the Memories of Our Pirates!

Ahoy, ECU Alumni! We're setting sail on an exciting journey called Pirate Stories! This project not only lets us reconnect with our 190,000+ Pirate alumni and update records, it also allows us to capture the amazing stories and memories you hold from your time at ECU. Who better to help write the history of ECU than those who experienced it? That's why we hope you will choose to participate when you're contacted by our partner, PCI (Publishing Concepts).

It's time to celebrate our Pirate pride and keep the memories alive through this project!

Frequently Asked Questions by Alumni

1. I received an email/postcard/phone call from a company asking for my personal information and a story about East Carolina University. Tell me more about the project.

We have partnered with PCI (also known as Publishing Concepts) to produce Pirate Stories which is an oral history project. At the conclusion of the project, there will be a publication with all the stories shared by our alumni for East Carolina University.

PCI is a family owned business based in Dallas, TX that has published directories for educational institutions, fraternities, sororities, and military organizations across the nation for over 100 years. This project allows us to hear about your personal experiences from your time at East Carolina University and how the school helped to shape your life since then. And, while we have you on the phone, we will confirm your information to make sure our alumni records are kept up to date.

2. Does East Carolina University benefit from this at all?

Yes, in a few different ways:
Legacy – sharing and collecting stories preserves the history of ECU through the eyes and voices of our alums
Updated Information – allows us to maintain our alumni information so you stay updated on everything happening at ECU and the different ways to become involved after you graduate
Revenue – generates donation revenue to help support programming to help our alumni around the world to stay involved
Pride – wearing apparel shows support and love for ECU! Wear your ECU Alumni apparel with pride, Pirate!

3. How do I know my information will only be used for Pirate Stories purposes?

ECUAA is committed to protecting your information, as is our project partner, PCI. The names, addresses and information provided to PCI for the publication of the Pirate Stories Project will be held confidential by PCI, except to the extent that they are utilized in, or in the preparation of, the Pirate Stories Project and except as required by court order or law.

4. I would like to verify or update my information and share a story. How may I do this?

If you have received a postcard or an email with a telephone number, you may call the number to speak with a dedicated representative for the Pirate Stories project.
